Essex Academies

The Academies are for our most talented players residing in East Essex and Thurrock.

There are two Satellite Academies (under 14) and two County Academies (under 16) for this year. There is the option for Talent Development Centres (TDC's)  based around Essex to support the Academies set up as partnerships with the Leagues.

An overview of the Academies is given below.

Academy principles

■  They are athlete / player centered.

■  They are based on scientific principles of training.

■  They are under-pinned by a structured Talent Identification process.

■  There is ongoing monitoring/evaluation against current England Netball (EN) Performance Standards.

■  They are nationally directed and locally delivered.

■  The programme is based upon EN Performance Standards.

■  The facilities used will meet EN standards.

■  There is an emphasis on training not competition.

■  This structure is in place across the country.

■  The coaches will be EN qualified to Level 2 or above

U16 County Academy

The Academies are a Partnership with East Essex, Essex Thurrock, and England Netball and the county Academy provides skills based support coaching for the elite U16 athletes in the County. It is the base for the England Talent pathway. Girls will be skill base trained for potential progression to the Regional Talent Development Programme (RTDP)

U14 Satellite Academy

Satellite Academies will provide talented young players with access to quality coaching and support services that will become familiar through this programme with regular training. Players will receive a structured technical programme with skills based training, time management and fitness.  The Satellites are for school years 8 & 9.

Academy Structures

■   Players are selected by County Talent Identifiers.

■   The selection process is organised by the Essex Academies Co-ordinator in liaison with the County Associations and England Netball.

■   Teachers/Club coaches can nominate players for trials using the EN Performance Standards and they must also have attended a Performance Standard Workshop (PSW). Anyone wishing to nominate who is not trained must nominate through a trained person (ask for guidance).

■  Each training session is 2 hours in length, usually twice a month for five months (running from November through to March). Details will be posted here.

■   Where possible, a Level 3 (or equivalent), Coach will Lead each Academy, with a minimum of one Level 2 Assistant Coach present at training sessions.

■   Every player and Coach will be requested to sign an England Netball Code of Conduct.

■   A maximum of 20 talented players will be selected for each Academy

■   Players will be expected to commit to attending all 10 sessions. There is a charge for the Academies, but most of the cost is underwritten by the County Netball Associations and England Netball.
